The following briefly describes a few touchscreen features and explains why they are essential:
Clarity & Brightness. Many touch technologies will block a few of the light from the display, however while this might reduce the effective brightness of the LCD display a good quality display has plenty of brightness to allow for this.
4K vs Full-HD. A higher resolution is a very important benefit on larger displays as touch-screen users will be within arms reach of the display. So whether it is for text or graphical use there will be a noticeable benefit to presenting a better resolution display.
Touchpoints. This notes how many simultaneous touches the display can detect. For most applications, two simultaneous touchpoints are generally that is necessary as this covers zoom and two-finger tap. Some applications may employ three-finger functions otherwise it is very only if several person might use the screen at the same time.
Touch resolution. With large touch screen displays the resolution of the touch sensor can be as important as the image resolution. If the touch resolution is low it’ll decrease touch accuracy.
Latency / Lag / Touch response. That is an issue most easily seen when drawing a line and is indicated by what lengths the line follows behind the finger or stylus. Be aware that the touchscreen, the PC and the display can all be factors affecting this.
Many larger touch screens, especially those using infra-red technology, will have a raised edge bezel. This could make cleaning more difficult and in particular not be well suited for touch screens used at an angle or flat as any liquids spilled with them will have nowhere going.
Response time. This is how fast the pixel elements in the LCD display switch on/off (normally measured from gray to gray). Faster is better as it gives you crisper images when there is motion on the display, slow response time can cause blurring or smearing of motion.
HID compatible. This permits plug-and-play compatibility with operating systems like Windows (versions 7, 8 & 10) eliminating the need for special drivers to be installed.
Mechanical & mounting. Most touchscreen monitors or displays are designed to be hung vertically on a wall. If the application form is for a table or as an ergonomic review tables such as noted below, it is vital that it’s designed fit for purpose.
Ball drop test. This is an indication of the strength of the cover glass, it literally provides a rating for the ability of the glass to withstand a metal ball being dropped on it.
